Bradford on Avon
BoA kicked off 2008 with an emphatic away performance at Swindon. Having to play Dan 'Bear' Tozer at inside centre for the injured Tom Monks and Joe Thompson at outside centre for injured skipper Jason Wheatley Bradford took a while to settle but performed their defensive duties impressively. The deadlock was broken on 20 minutes when flanker Dave George took a short pass from his back-row colleague Harry Hancock, handed off his opponent and sprinted 20 meters under the posts. Phil Heale converted. From the restart George gathered, recycled and Ginger Harvey broke 20 meters and fed Dolly Dawson who again sprinted under the posts. Phil Heale converted. Swindon then lost their hooker and the game was reduced to uncontested scrums.A smart cross field kick from Phil Heale found wing Ben Sheppard who gathered brilliantly, fed inside to George who transferred to Tozer to cross in the corner.
Bradford made changes at half time with Kyle Vyvian replacing George, Ed Dawson replacing Tom Hunt and Paul 'Hog' Bevan replacing Brad 'Bull' Wilson. Play became scrappy with several BoA players contacting 'white line fever'. Coach Dave George had words and BoA ran in tries from Harry Hancock, Mike Eveleigh, Geraint Thomas, Phil Heale and DanTozer a brace to complete his second hat trick in two games. (What's all the fuss about, Monksy!!??) Phil Heale added another three conversions to make the score 60 - 0.
'We will need to perform with more consistency and finish more clinically if we are to compete with the stronger teams in the league. However I was pleased to get another clean sheet and the boys filling in positions again covered themselves in glory' said coach Dave George
