Supermarine
A bitterly cold day at The Dome saw a reshaped BoA XV overcome Supermarine with a clinical and powerful first half performance. An absence of any scrum-halves and centres meant that Dave George moved from flank to the No9 berth and Dan 'The Bear' Tozer switch from No8 to inside-centre. Tom Davidson returned from Uni to play at blindside and Tom Hunt filled in for the suspended Ginger Powell at second row.
The BoA pack came out firing from the start and took the game to the Marine eight. Solid rucking meant quick ball and this enabled The Bear to create a 20 minute hat trick using a combination of guile and power. Further tries from Ben Sheppard, Phil Heale and Ben Lumley (the other one will not be forgotten Ben!!) allowed BoA to go in 33 - 0 at half time.
The second half began with a more determined performance by Supermarine and some stout defence from BoA. Having weathered the storm, Bradford rallied to score two more tries, the pick of which came from the 'Bradford Bull' Brad Wilson who stormed over from a penalty following great approach work from the forwards. Phil Heale added five conversions before the last play of the match saw Supermarine gain a deserved try right on the last play. BoA regain second spot in the table and Dave George was delighted to achieve the target of 500 points before Xmas and also be on course for a targetted top four finish.
' We had a lot of players injured or unavailable, which also led to players playing out of position. This match was a potential banana skin following our mishap at Melksham. I was proud of the way all the players stood up and perfomed, especially the pack. This ensures we go into the break with our heads up, looking forward to the second half of the season with renewed confidence'
