Marlborough
Another fine day for rugby at The Dome saw Bradford overcome a determined and dogged Marlborough team.
Bradford started well and from strong driving from the pack and direct running from centres Tom Monks and veteran Jason Wheatley led to a penalty 30 meters out which was converted by Phil Heale. Marlborough were giving the BoA pack a hard time at scrum time but the ball that was won was used well, allowing the BoA backline to show their style. One crisp move was rounded off by Tom Monks who eventually grounded the ball following a neat juggling act. The try was converted by Phil Heale. More enterprising play saw winger Paul Gerrish have a try cruelly disallowed for crossing and full back Damian Hardaker held up after coming into the line at pace. Marlborough then began to utilise their rolling maul which resulted in a succession of penalties against BoA and ultimately led to Marlborough scoring from a 5 metre lineout right on half time. The conversion hit the post.
The second half started messily with several scrums being re-set and tempers staring to boil. However BoA pack started to ruck with more venom than they'd showed in the first half and this helped set the platform for the BoA backs again. Scrum-half Mike Eveleigh profited from a great drive by No 8 Dan Tozer who off-loaded to Eveleigh who ran under the posts, conversion by Phil Heale. The Marlborough line out was begining to misfire with Dave George and Ed Dawson profiting from lose throws to drive through the line and secure good turnover. This resulted in full back Damian Hardaker finishing off a neat move in the corner, for an unconverted try. Man of the match and debutant flanker Harry Hancock capped a fine performance showing instinctive support play to finish well, again converted by Heale.
BoA saved their best till last with replacement winger Ben Lumley scoring a try which started in BoA's 22 and showed ingenious approach play by Geraint Thomas. Try converted by Heale.
An overall good performance but with Minety next week the pack will have to improve their ball retention and tighten up in the set piece
