Chew Valley under-16s
25 - 5
Bradford-on-Avon under-16s
The game kicked off, with a mediocre start. After about ten minutes, Bradford began to dominate play, and had many phases of convincing play in and around Chew Valley’s five metre line. However, Bradford on Avon seemed to lack the finesse to convert this play to points. Eventually the time came, with Danny Kohn diving over the line off the back of a very well set Bradford on Avon scrum. From the restart, a seemingly more determined Chew Valley side brought it back to us, with no lost spirits. After conceding against Chew Valley, in a game we expected to easily win, (having beaten them twice last season,) the team began to lose morale, and did not ‘want’ the game as much as the opposition. But once again, Bradford fought back constructing many more decent and enjoyable passages of play, with some nice place-kicking by Toby Davies. However once again Bradford lacked the ability to finish these dominating passages of play.
In the second half, Bradford received back Ollie Gill and David Lamplough, and lost Dan Hill and Mat Lisanti who all kindly offered to play for Chew Valley due to their shortage of players. The second half was unfortunately not so enjoyable. Our forwards seemed to be beaten about by the very large Chew Valley pack, and the side seemed to grow in confidence despite being down to 14 players having had one of their players sin binned for stamping. However Bradford stuck it out with our heads remaining high until the end of the match, in which we were rewarded with a very large bowl of chips! The final score: Chew Valley 25: Bradford on Avon 5. A disappointing loss, but one we could and should have easily won.
