Welcome to the 2007 – 2008 rugby season at Bradford on Avon RFC. To all new members, a very warm welcome and to those that have returned again, welcome back.
As this is my first year as Youth Chairman I would like to say what an honour it is to be entrusted with such a fabulous youth section. By the time our season gets underway over 100 children, mainly from our club, will have already taken part in a rugby training week with Socious sports at our ground. This is a great start to the season and hopefully sets the tone for the rest of the year.
With up to 200 children playing at Ashley Lane on a Sunday morning, there is no better sight than seeing all of them enjoying themselves by running around making new and lasting friendships and keeping fit. I believe that the whole aim of rugby is enjoyment, which is very definitely heightened by winning but first and foremost it must be about enjoyment. Since becoming involved with the club this has certainly been true and the amount of children that turn up week after week bears testament to this (or are their parents big bullies!!).
The fact that the children can turn up week after week is down to the enormous effort put in by coaches, parents and helpers alike to ensure a smooth running club. One of the few things we ask of parents is to help out every now and again in the club house on a Sunday. If everyone volunteers once a year then the burden is evenly shared & the coaches can continue to coach your children and not prepare food. Please help.
