Corsham/Melksham under-16s
8 - 5
Bradford-on-Avon under-16s
What could have been described by some in previous years as fairly soft fixtures against Corsham or Melksham, because until they united last season, this Bradford team had never lost to either club, is now a very different ball game!!
Corsham/Melksham are now quite a challenge for any opposition, not least a B-O-A side missing several players and fielding some others out of position. However when push comes to shove the B-O-A boys will, as ever, give 100% and Sunday was no exception.
The game started and continued with Bradford camped out in the opposition's half but apart from some slick handling which led to No. 8 Steph Florentiades sliding over in the corner, Bradford failed to finish off some lovely passages of play which should have led to at least two more scores! The forwards carried and rucked ball well and with the search and destroy tactics of flankers Jordan Rhodes and Joe Farrag, many opposition breaks were thwarted! Dan Hunt's ability to float in the lineout meant lineout ball was also won! The backs also had a good game with Danny Kohn playing his first game at fly half and Toby Davies playing his first game at inside centre, mention must also go to Matt Lowe who coped superbly under the high ball in his debut role at full back.
The one fly in the ointment came in the shape of the Corsham flyer himself, Chris Ball who scored a meritorious (!) try in the second half. The dying minutes saw Bradford give away a silly penalty in front of the posts, for diving over, which gave Corsham/Melksham the three points they needed to secure victory.
