YOUTH SECTION RECOGNISED FOR EFFORTS WITH YOUNGSTERS
At an awards ceremony held at County Hall, Morpeth the club's youth section received an award for its outstanding work with youngsters in Blyth. The award was presented by the High Sheriff of Northumberland Sir Hugh Blackett and received on behalf of the club by long time youth coach Keny Robinson. Thanks to Keny Robinson and the other youth rugby coaches at Blyth the club was awarded the maximum award of £1000.
Each year the High Sheriff of Northumberland makes awards to a wide range of youth organisations actoss the county with the aim of preventing crime and disorder by providing improved facilities for young people in the area of of leisure and personal development. Awards of between £150 and £1,000 have been made to more than 250 organisations including a variety of sporting activities, scout and guide groups, youth bands, youth clubs and drop-in centres for young people. The High Sheriff Fund is managed by the Community Foundation and supported by the Sir James Knott Trust. It aims to encourage and support organisations and individuals whose work helps to achieve results in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour as well as encouraging young people to develop a greater community awreness and enable them to become lawful and upstanding citizens.
AWARD FOR KENY ROBINSON
Special awards and certificates are also presented to individuals whose commitment and contribution to community work with young people deserves particular recognition. This resulted in a personal award for Keny. His individual commitment and effort within the community was recognised with a framed certificate. He was one of only two people from the 55 groups represented to receive this special honour. Keny is pictured below with his certificate and the club anti-crime youth award.
