If ever it was necessary to provide for the fact that in sport you end up getting what you deserve out of the game, this defeat proves that adage. The 5ths were deservedly beaten in a game where we simply failed to gel or shine in any way. A team hastily put together at the last minute on the Saturday morning, when it had at first looked as if for the first time that anyone could remember we would fail to have the full fifteen players for a fixture, actually managed to run an excellent Enfield side quite close in the end losing by just five points. However this now means that both of the 5ths defeats in the league in the 2009-2010 have been against Enfield Ignatius. This was enough to allow Enfield to replace Bishops Stortford at the top of the table. Although the 5ths retain a game in hand, we will need to keep on top of all our remaining games if we are to end up as league winners.
This was the first game for four weeks, following two cancellations either side of the Christmas break. The 5ths played a poorly structured game, with the wrong decisions being made by most players at crucial times. This stopped the game from flowing in our direction. We were almost constantly on the back foot until the final ten minutes of the game, but this proved to be too late to overcome the deficit that existed.
All of the points for the 5ths were scored by Mark Sellers playing at Scrum Half. He scored a try in the first half with a jinking run and dive from the 22. He then slotted a penalty late in the second half that set up the possibility of a victory for the 5ths.
