The BSRFC Youth section comprises teams from Under 13 to Under 17. This section is the route to Colts (Under 18/19s) which, in turn, is the integration stage between Youth and Senior rugby.
All Youth and Colts games are played following International Rugby Board (IRB) laws but subject to the Under 19 variations which allow for a greater player safety margin. These variations include limiting matches to 35 minutes each way (no extra time); pausing before the opposition front rows meet; disallowing scrums from wheeling more than 45 degrees if unintentional; disallowing scrums from being pushed more the 1.5 metres; insisting on a quick release of the ball from the base of the scrum. Referees will stop a game immediately when player safety is compromised (eg a collapsed scrum), even if a try could have been scored (Supporters please note!)
A considerable number of players come via the Mini/Midi section although those who are only introduced to the game of rugby at secondary school see the Club as a natural extension of their own school coaching and a chance to mix with friends from other schools. Co-operation between schools and the Club is important and actively sought as one side may spot, and bring out potential, that the other side has missed.
The Youth section continues to be a major supplier of Herts County players and to the prestigious Saracen's Academy. The near term target for Youth players is to play for the Club First Team and many do.
The cost of membership is unchanged this season from last- although we have slightly changed the rationale under which you part with your cash. the Youth Family playing rate is £110 but this is now made up of a £55 fee and £55 donation. This change allows us to take advantage of our CASC status and cliam back from the Tax man the Gift aid from the donation element. In effect boosting our income without asking you fro more money.
The rate increases to £170 ( similar ratio of donation and fee) if you have two youth players in the same family. One Mini & one Youth Player is £160 ( again split between donation and fee)
If you are a senior player with a youth player in the same family it's £180 and if your a senior player with 2 youth members its the maximum membership fee of £200
