Captain's Corner No.1
2007 -2008 Season
Hello and welcome to this my first cringe worthy attempt at Captain's Corner, first of all a big thank you to everybody who has supported me in recent months during this appointment. It really has been very humbling and hugely encouraging to know that so many of the club members are so supportive of both me and the cause. I'm now looking forward to repaying your trust in me by supplying you with some fantastic rugby in the coming months.
Training started a while ago now and has been a huge success both in terms of numbers at pre-season and in the quality of sessions. There's been a good mix of fitness and ball work with some very well structured sessions by CJ. There's also been a very popular addition to the training regime in the form of your new Vice Chairman. Scott Gleed has done an admirable job in ensuring that if we can't beat them on the pitch we'll sure as hell beat them in the ring!
The boxing sessions which have been alternating with Colin's sessions (and Mick when he is not harvesting!!) have been extremely beneficial and really worked wonders in scraping bodies out of their comfort zone. Some real quality fitness work and of course a huge thank you to Scott for your input.
After the first month of training we hit August and training in the cold and wet under flood lights it sometimes felt like January! A real sense of achievement having trained under some high intensity conditions which hopefully prove vital for the opening encounters of the season. With that in mind onwards to Cheltenham where I'm sure squad members will really start coming out of their shells, both on and off the pitch!
No doubt this season will provide us with some highs and lows, however may I encourage you all to keep up your continued support and hope that the bounce of the ball goes our way this season and yet again cement our position in this ever more competitive league.
Good luck and work hard.
Paddy Dean
Club Captain.
