BCRUFC Executive Committee Notice
Shaw Bank Proposals – Information Meeting.
The TCR development at Shaw Bank is potentially an exciting opportunity for the Rugby Club to take another huge step in its development. Your executive committee has been working with TCR and a number of other organisations, including the RFU, to draft out ways of achieving the expansion of the Club onto an accessible single site with a self-contained club-house and totally modern facilities for seniors and juniors alike.
We are now in a position to outline the option which appears most attractive, so that the Club Members can see a presentation of how things could develop. Clearly taking the idea further will incur both effort and cost, so it is proper that Members have an opportunity to ask all the questions that will spring to mind, and to indicate support or not for the principle.
Accordingly we are calling a Club Meeting for 8.30 pm on Thursday 19th February 2009, at which there will be a screen presentation by the architects retained by TCR, outlining what TCR are doing and how the proposals for the Rugby Club’s inclusion in the scheme could look. There will be a question time, and an opportunity for Members to express views and concerns if any. Following this the committee would hope to receive general approval to set up a project team to pull together all the information which will be needed before a final decision to proceed or not can be taken at a future General Meeting.
If you cannot make it, please make sure your views are known to a Committee Member. Our stated parameters are listed below.
At all stages in the project, these will be our guidelines:-
1. the Club must retain its own identity – we are not looking to merge with other clubs, sporting or otherwise, but can see the benefits of working with other organisations;
2. the Club must retain its own management – we function best when in control of our own destiny in all areas;
3. the Club must remain as one Club – there is no benefit in splitting off seniors and juniors - the future of the senior section lies in the junior section;
4. the Club must actively pursue the goal of having a single site clubhouse and fields in its ownership or control;
5. the Club must continue to seek to provide the highest quality social, playing and training facilities for all members;
6. discussions re Shaw Bank will only take place while all the above is achievable, and Members will have the final decision at a future General Meeting.
