The mighty Ampthill 2s found themselves in a poor game this week playing Stewart & Lloyds away.
From the first whistle the Ampthill boys showed that the long journey was well and truly forgotten putting the home side on the back foot straightaway with some outstanding scrums and set pieces.
Ampthill took the first blood with a forwards try Perrett doing the honours 0-5. Stewart and Lloyds found some fire in their belly and responded by taking the game up a gear, with some poor tackling from Ampthill the home side scored between the posts 7-5.
With the Amps having only 15 players the half-time whistle came with some relief as fitness is still clearly an issue....."get down to training boys"!!
The second half came with Stewart and Lloyds changing their tactics from a very forwards dominated game to a kicking game putting the back three under pressure. The A's won good lineout ball setting up good solid mauls it was only a matter of time before Amps second try came courtesy of Luke Antoine.
The third and final try was run in by Andy Longworth running half the length of the pitch to score between the posts which McInnes promptly converted.
All in all a good day for the Colts members of Amps 2s, Shaun Walker, Luke Antoine, Andy Logan, Andy Longworth and Pez Perrett all playing a very big part in the win. A comment has to be made about Hemingway's captaincy from No 8...
Clearly the forwards rough-and-tumble and old age has taken its toll as he came away thinking we had lost 7-17!!!!!!
