vRugby aims to create over 3,744 new opportunties over 3 years from 2008 to 2011 for young people aged 16-25 to volunteer in Rugby Union.
Young volunteers will run ‘bite size’ projects that really benefit their club or local community. They will receive training, clothing, certificates and expenses. Having ‘tasted’ rugby volunteering they will be shown paths to longer term voluntary roles at rugby clubs.
The taster projects will be one of four themes:
vRugbyFun Plan, organise and deliver a fun rugby event for others to take part in healthy exercise.
vRugbyLife Use rugby’s ethos to run a session to educate young people about healthy lifestyles (nutrition, exercise, obesity, alcohol, drugs, behaviour, etc.)
vRugbyCash Raise money for a project of your choice to benefit your rugby club.
vRugbyForce Make an improvement to your club facilities so they can be used more by your local community.
The Rugby Football Foundation and v, an independent charity championing youth volunteering in England, are funding the project. Community Rugby (Rugby Football Development Ltd) will be delivering the project.
