What a great season we had last year, as well as the high standard of rugby we made some very good friends whom we will miss on our promotion as champions to National 2 South.
This season our President Monique Bruce-Copp and Chairman Mike "Rhino" Whitfield, welcome you all to Barn Elms, where we hope that you will experience top notch hospitality, good grub, real ale and terrific rugby in a village atmosphere in SW13. I am sure that this season we will renew old acquaintances and make even more friends.
Our coaching staff lead by Carson Russell continues to attract players from all over the UK who want to join us for our slick and fast running style of rugby. Gary Holmes continues as captain this season building on the comradeship and feel good factor which is inherent in this team. They have built a squad at Barnes who want to play rugby for us because it is good fun. Our strategies have been successful to date and we will not deviate from the "Rugby Core Values" that have been integral to the club. We remain as ambitious as before, but we still believe in playing for each other and for enjoyment. Training will always be skill based and we will play to our abilities and not focus too much on the opposition.
It would be unfair to all of last year’s squad to mention individual players as everyone contributed to the success but as a result of our style of play the majority of our points were contributed by our back three of Luke Sayer who was the Nat 3 London & South East leading try scorer and Warren Gower was our leading kicker and Don Jones
We have learnt from our previous experience in the NCA and that should stand us in good stead for consolidating our place in this league.
Barnes RFC has four senior men’s, a veteran’s team who are Harrodians RFC (which was our name when we were founded as Harrods Sports Club in 1932 when all the original members worked at the Harrods store).
The very lovely Barnes Ladies team grace the RFUW leagues and their tours and socialising are legend.
The future success of Barnes RFC is within the thriving Minis section which from a standing start in 2008 have risen to 250 kids participating on a Saturday Morning. Credit should go to Simon Bound who was their founder and first chairman and all the parents who have enthuastically got involved in various ways to support the Minis.
Barnes RFC is a really friendly, unpretentious rugby club, doing what rugby clubs do best "Play hard on the field and play hard off it" and we hope to live up to our motto " Barnes RFC - It's Rucking Brilliant".
We hope that you enjoy our company and leave with good memories.
